A Brief History of the Colorado-Cuba Humanitarian and Medical Project
2002: CHaMP was originally formed in early 2002. Members traveled
to Yateras to discuss opportunities for musical, sport, and health
exchanges. We held a benefit during the Fall of 2002 that proved to
be very successful and demonstrated the strong community support for
our organization. 2003: During April the first formal delegation traveled to Yateras. A benefit was held at Rhumba to raise money for a health project in Palenque, the capital. Members traveled to Palenque in December to set up art and health exchanges and to participate in a local running race – the first annual “MaraYateras.” It was a great success, and called a “historic event” by the Cubans. 2004: Several visits were made with various health individuals and communities in Cuba. CHaMP held the first American screening of the Cuban film Suite Habana at Naropa University. The screening was a great success! 2005: Several humanitarian and medical projects are in the works
for the upcoming year. We are currently pursuing gaining an export
license from the U.S. government so that we can ship medical supplies
and other items to Cuba. |
