CHaMP Mission
The Colorado - Cuba Humanitarian and Medical Project (CHaMP) is a diverse group comprised of healthcare professionals, educators, engineers, and local business people. The groups primary interest is to promote a mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and ideas between Cuba and the United States. The group's emphasis is on health, humanitarian, and environmental issues. The approach is to use collaborative problem-solving techniques to address health, humanitarian, and environmental needs of the Cuban people. Volunteerism and fundraising allow us to meet our goals and to address the material needs of our Cuban counterparts. Health and Medicine It is CHaMP's hope to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and ideas between Cuban and American nurses, physicians, public health experts, and other health providers. In particular we seek to expand our knowledge of the respected and established practices of Cuban integrative medicine. In turn, we hope to update Cuban practitioners on current U.S. standards that could complement their practice. Additionally, CHaMP seeks to help fill certain material needs of Cuban healthcare providers by donating medications, durable medical equipment, and basic supplies. Sports and Fitness CHaMP seeks to promote fitness and health through sports and activity. Members of the group have been instrumental in coordinating the first series of running races in Yateras. Both of our communities participated in the planning of this successful event. CHaMP further promotes health by coordinating with One-World Running to provide donated equipment for athletic activities including running shoes, baseball mitts, active attire, and other items. Humanitarian and Environment CHaMP coordinates efforts of Cuban and American experts as well as local Cuban governmental agencies to solve local problems in Cuba. Currently CHaMP is developing a water project to assist rural Cubans with establishing reliable and clean water resources. |
